‘Away’ is the 2nd book by the author Dhruv Bogra. The first one was the best seller ‘Grit, Gravel and Gear’ in which he described his pan American journey from the Arctic to the Andes spanning 400 days and 18000 kms solo trip on a bicycle.

In 2020, I joined a vintage bicycle club on facebook. In 2021, I acquired a 50-year-old pre-owned classic BSA roadster and got it reconditioned. And in 2022, I saw a documentary film on classic bicycles titled – THE SOUL OF A CYCLIST. What’s next in 2023? I don’t have the answer, nor I can predict; but now, I can certainly share my views about the documentary film I watched.

‘The Bicycle Diaries’ is a fabulous piece of research work done in tracing the history of India Cycling by a retired journalist couple Anoop Babani and Savia Viegas. Post retirement, the Mumbai duo settled in Goa in 2005 and started pedaling for recreation and soaking in the solitary lanes of Goa. The idea of writing a book struck when Anoop had a tragic fall and was advised rest for several weeks. This period of inactivity turned their attention towards reading. Subsequently, their interest advanced into a deeper investigation on Indian Cycling, thus, ‘The Bicycle Diaries’ was constituted.

I first heard Jonas Deichmann, an ultra-cyclist and extreme adventurer speak at the ‘Digital World Bike’ virtual cycling conference held in 2020 during the global shutdown. And just few days ago, he posted an update on his facebook page ‘Jonas Deichmann Adventures’ about his appointment as the new brand ambassador for ‘meetyoo conferencing’, the same digital events company which had organised Digital World Bike. That’s a remarkable progress!
