Scott Sports India, a direct subsidiary of Scott Bikes, Switzerland has added another marvel to its kitty. The new Scott Sub Active ERide is a hybrid commuter model and wrapped with all the modern features that reflects in a powerful sophisticated engineering design.
The Scott Sub Active ERide is ePowered by BOSCH eBike Systems and comes with a 400 WH battery which is the unique selling proposition of this machine.
Targeted at evolved urban commuters, the Scott Sub Active ERide is a premium product and retails at INR 1.89 lakhs in India (as of February 2020).
I rode this classy city bike at a recently held sports event in Mumbai and here’s my quick review.
The Scott Sub Active ERide is technologically ahead, very comfortable and a smart personal mobility vehicle in town. The Ebike is fitted with a compact BOSCH Active Line drive unit attached to the bottom bracket which results in optimal centre of gravity, giving the rider a smooth experience. To provide right balance and speed, the drive unit has in-built ‘electronic control system’. This intelligent system equipped in the drive unit has 3 sensors – for force, cadence and speed, and ensures ideal balance between motor and pedalling.
The on-board computer ‘Purion’ is compact, has minimalistic design and easy to operate. The clear display gives battery charge status, speed, riding modes, trip distance and total distance. The device comes with high resolution display with four different riding modes to choose from – ‘Sport’ for city commutes, ‘Turbo’ for climbing, ‘Touring’ mode for long rides and ‘Eco’ mode to achieve maximum efficiency. The intelligent Purion fits neatly onto the handle bar and one can safely operate it with the thumb offering uninterrupted flexibility.
Scott Sub Active ERide is built with 6061 alloy frame which has a wider step though that makes it a little easier to dismount and offers a comfortable upright posture. The Sub Active comes with Suntour Suspension with locking system, Syncros Wing Style Handlebar, Shimano Acera Groupset, Shimano Hydraulic Disc Brakes, and Schwalbe Tyres.

The battery charges 100% in 5 hours and covers 120 kms in a single charge. The battery has expected life of 40,000 kms and can be replaced thereafter. The battery can be detached swiftly using a common key also used for the lock, a provision available on all latest models of Scott ebikes. Both the motor and the battery are water resistant so you can go ahead and confidently travel even during wet conditions. The Bosch battery has one of the lowest battery depreciation as compared to other ebike batteries in the market. Expect not more than 80% reduction in range over a 2 year period of moderate to heavy usage.
The Scott Sub Active ERide comes with ‘Pedal Assist’ system which means the pedal assist will not activate if you don’t pedal. But the system is quite supportive once you start pedalling and saves a lot of energy. One can get assistance anywhere between +50% additional power to +250% depending on the mode. The motor puts out 40 nm of torque resulting in swift acceleration in urban traffic conditions.
Approximately, the Scott Sub Ride weighs 25 kgs and has pedal assist till 25 km/hr, although the bike can go to much higher speeds. This bike does not require any license to ride in India. However, it is advisable to get it insured.
What I liked best about this Scott Ebike is the accessories which are thoughtfully paired and integrated. The Sub Active is equipped with a Rear Rack (spring system) that can carry load up to 25 kgs, a Bungee Rope with a latch fixed onto the rack, Fenders which are paint matched, Anti-Theft Prevention (ART) approved battery lock, a unique Chain cover and Lezyne front and rear lighting system which comes along with the electric bicycle making the design complete and ready to hit the road.
For parking convenience, the ebike is integrated with a kickstand mount which is directly mounted on the frame. So you need not worry about keeping your bike on the ground or finding a pole to rest it.
Overall, the Scott Sub Active is an ideal commuter ebike with a perfect blend of advance technology, high quality components and futuristic design for urban lifestyle.
