Why are foreigners choosing India as a cycling destination? We don’t have the requisite cycling infrastructure and safety is a critical issue. ‘Our weather and road conditions are not suited for cycling’ is what most local citizens say as the main reason for not cycling. Last week, we celebrated International Women’s Week and a few women cyclist stories were shared on the social media handles of Pedal and Tring Tring. So, in this blog, I am sharing inspiring stories of five women who discovered the joy, freedom and transformative power of cycling. Their efforts and enthusiasm shows that there are no barriers to cycling – it’s all in the mind; and it’s never too late to start peddling towards a healthier and happier you.

FROM CALICUT TO SOMNATH – MY SOLO CYCLING ODYSSEY
My target for the day was 50 miles. The previous night was terrific. A storm had passed, and the beach house where I had stayed was rattling for almost half an hour. I tried to sail through the darkness as mosquitoes took over my room. Water supply had ceased, and even a shower in the morning was impossible. With a fully drained power bank, a phone with less than 70% battery- life, no sleep and poor breakfast, I had to ride from Kunkeshwar to Ratnagiri. Pedal For The Planet turned out to be a process to accustom to the uncertainty of life!
