CYCLISTS ILLUMINATES THE STREETS OF MUMBAI WITH DIWALI NIGHT RIDE

Cyclists from different parts of Mumbai city on 27th Sunday, 2024 illuminated the streets with the annual Diwali night ride. More than 100 riders pedaled their way to south Mumbai with their bicycles decorated with lights.

Vipin Arumugham, the founder of CycloFunatics cycling club had organized this ride. CycloFunatics is actively working to bring people together and grow the cycling culture in the city. 

Speaking about the ride Vipin say’s “This ride is all about celebrating the festival together and having fun. As the name suggests, our purpose at ‘CycloFunatics’ is to have ‘Fun’ and bring like-minded people together. We have been organizing such rides since 4 to 5 years and our next festive ride will be around Christmas. People can follow us on Instagram or facebook @CycloFunatics and join us.” 

The ride started from Andheri and the assembly point was Mahim Church. All cyclists gathered and rode towards Shivaji Park. The next stop was Haji Ali with more riders joining in. The enthusiastic group came together at CSMT station for a group picture. Asiatic library was the next stop and the ride culminated at Gateway of India.

Other road users appreciated the presence of so many cyclists pedaling together. Cycling through the festival of lights is the best way to celebrate our culture. 

67-year-old Mangala Pai shares “We rode joyfully with our bicycles beautifully decorated with lights. It was a mesmerizing sight. By organizing such festive rides helps our cyclists to meet and greet each other. Younger cyclists get motivated by experienced cyclists. I hope more and more people in Mumbai start cycling and make it a way of life.”

Participants were at their creative best with unique use of lights on their bicycle wheels, headgear, jerseys and music played on bluetooth speakers. The night just came alive and a huge attraction for pedestrians and onlookers as the spinning wheels offered a brilliant sight.

Photographer and avid cyclist Rohit shares his experience “For someone who doesn’t prefer night rides, this was indeed a memorable adventure. It was quite a thrilling experience, riding and capturing beautiful moments with so many riders on the bustling streets of Mumbai.” 

The Diwali night ride had a mix participation with season cyclists and amateur riders. Women cyclist also joined in good numbers cheering throughout the journey and celebrating inclusivity.

The megacity comes alive during Diwali with vibrant streets and serene neighborhoods adorned with shimmering radiance. The festive period offers a different perspective to cycling enthusiasts and opportunity to bond over special moments and establish new relations.

Supriya Naravankar who recently took to cycling say’s “I fell grateful for the joy of cycling, the beauty of Diwali, and the warmth of the community. Consider doing a night ride and you will discover a new side of your city, forge unforgettable connections, and create memories that shine brighter than the Diya’s.”   

The stunning illuminated landmarks with the beautiful skyline bring alive the city of dreams. Breathtaking views of the Marine Drive and the festive crowds adds to the spirit. If you haven’t gone night cycling to witness the experience first-hand, then now is the time to do it. Saddle-up, decorate your bicycles, put on your safety gear, join a group and hit the roads. Don’t’ forget to carry a smile on your face and capture the moments for a lifetime memory.
