As Mumbai gears up to cast their vote at the Assembly Elections on 20th November, 2024, the Election Commission has accelerated their campaign urging citizens to vote and participate in the festival of democracy. A cycle rally was organised with 300 riders pedaling together putting up a strong show of unity in diversity. The event saw presence of celebrities like Padmini Kohlapure and Shreyas Talpade.
The social awareness cycle rally was held on 9th November, Saturday with participants chanting the slogan ‘Vote Kar Mumbaikar’. The ride was flagged off in the morning at 7am from Vile Parle east and culminated at Juhu beach. Police officers lead the rally safely guiding the riders on the route.

Children from nearby schools came in good numbers on their cycles, holding placards with messages emphasising on the importance of voting. They were joined by Municipal staff wearing khaki dress and orange reflective jackets with banners in their hands making an appeal to the citizens to make their votes count.
The event started with a small play performed on stage by students followed by distribution of mementos to the volunteers who helped to organize the event and make it successful.
Members from the election commission and celebrities present at the stage, in their speech, encouraged people not to be lazy and to exercise their right to vote and contribute towards the progress of the city, state and the nation.

Everyone came together and took a voters pledge which read –
“We, the citizens of India, having abiding faith in democracy, hereby pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of our country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections, and to vote fearlessly and without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, caste, community, language or any inducement in Assembly General Election 2024 on Wednesday, 20th November, 2024”.
Mr. Vishwas Mote, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Zone 3 and a Triathlete say’s “As a part of FIT MUMBAI MOVEMENT, the activity today initiated for SYSTEMATIC VOTERS EDUCATION AND ELECTORAL PARTICIPATION campaign for promoting to Vote, Strengthening Democracy”.

Ravi Agarwal, an avid cyclist who volunteered for bringing together all the riders say’s “I appeal to all the citizens to show their power and make our nation more powerful. I am happy to see such a large turnout of more than 300 riders for a significant cause, and it would be great to see 100% attendance on the voting day”.

There was a considerable presence of journalists at the venue from various media houses to cover the event and further disseminate the message and reach out to a larger audiences.
Post the event, all participants and volunteers were served with fresh coconut water, breakfast, and were felicitated on stage with a certificate by the election commission officials.
The objective of this event will only be fulfilled if 100% of Mumbaikars vote on the 20th November. Cyclists have shown their ‘Pedal Power’ and it’s now time for the public to show their ‘People Power’. So, let’s ride to the Ballot Box and make a difference!
