A meet-up of Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR cyclist) that includes the cities of Mumbai, Thane, Mira-Bhayandar and Panvel was held on the 19th of November at Thane city. Over 200 cyclists participated in the ride and meet-up programme.
Purpose:
The objective of this meet-up was to bring all the cyclists and cycling clubs together at a common venue and have a friendly conversation with them.
Host:
MMR Cyclist meet-up 2023 was organised by Team Wheels and Barrels Thane and BYCS Thane. The event was graced by all the four Bicycle Mayors from MMR region – Chirag Shah from Thane, Dr. Vishwanathan Iyer from Mumbai, Aman Nadgeri from Mira-Bhayandar, and Sudhir Chakole from Panvel. Shalini Rathore, Sarbpreet Naroo, Anil Uchil and JP Shetty from team Wheels and Barrels helped the bicycle mayors in putting up a successful event.
Sharing Experiences:
The MMR cyclist event was attended by several cycling clubs and enthusiastic cyclists. A lot of ideas and experiences were shared by few senior cyclists on stage. The platform gave an opportunity to voice opinions and thoughts about the current situation in cycling and how it can be improved.
Awards:
The Bicycle Mayors also awarded trophies and certificates to a few MMR cyclists for their outstanding contribution in promoting cycling. And the recognition was extended to influencers like YouTubers and Bloggers who voice the opinions and concerns of cyclists through content creation round the year.
Quiz and Prizes:
The anchor of the event Anil Uchil engaged with audiences by asking questions related to cycling history and rewarded them for their right answers with goodies. The crowd enjoyed the quiz session as it was interactive and allowed them to share and grow their knowledge.
Cycling Pledge:
The MMR cyclist event culminated with a cycling pledge. Anil Uchil read the pledge on the microphone and the rest of us followed. This pledge is written by Anil Uchil which reads as follows –
Cyclist’s Safety Pledge:
“I, Anil Uchil, promise that,
I will always wear a helmet while riding a bicycle, no matter how short the ride.
I will ride safely and try to ensure the safety of fellow cyclists.
I will share the road responsibly with other cyclists, pedestrians and vehicles.
I will do my best to make cycling a way of life, for me and for others.”
