The Copenhagenize Index latest edition places Mumbai at 5th rank in the overall ranking of ‘Best Bicycle Friendly Cities’ on this planet. Mumbai, overtook Strasbourg, which has long been recognized as a premier destination for cycling in France. Filmmaker Liz Canning cycled everywhere until she had twins in 2008. Hauling babies via car was not only ‘unsustainable’, but it took the freedom and adventure out of life; and Liz felt trapped. She Googled “family bike” and uncovered a global movement of people replacing cars with cargo bikes. Liz set out to learn more and MOTHERLOAD was born.

Some say Twitter is a waste of time. However, it is the world’s largest platform to strike conversations globally and is a very effective way for cyclists to network, campaign and communicate.

I have been very keen to embrace Twitter. Like many cyclists I am IT savvy. It has been useful to network with cycling organisations, cycling media; print, internet and television. Twitter was especially a great tool to use to let my friends and followers know where I was as I cycled across USA in 2013 from Los Angeles to Boston covering 3415 miles with my daughter Catherine. Do you remember the poem ‘The Blind Men And The Elephant’ by John Godfrey Saxe, where six blind men were partially exposed to an elephant and had their own interpretations on what an elephant would be like. In the story, each blind man created his own version of reality and were correct in their narrations based on the limited exposure to the object.
