Bandra, the heart of Mumbai suburbs is all set to welcome tourist from all corners of the world. Neighbourhoods are shimmering with lights decorated over old Portuguese houses. Cafes and Bakeries are baked up to host tourists with special menus and cuisines. As an annual ritual, I ventured for the Bandra Christmas lighting tour on a bicycle and this blog captures my observations.

It’s that time of the year when Bandra shows its best side to the world. The cultural centre of Christian community in the city is most attractive. From Mount Mary Church to St. Peters Church, the divine energy is all around spreading joy, peace and togetherness.



The pop-up Christmas markets at Hill Road is the ideal place to shop for décor items. You get a choice to enter shops for premium Christmas trees and ornaments or opt to bargain with the street shops. For window shoppers too, this place is a delightful destination.
Cafes, Bakeries and Restaurants await to give you a warm reception as you step-in to savour on food and refreshments. Many cafes have Christmas special menus and discount offers. Bakeries prepare extra stock of plum cakes, confectioneries and gift hampers to fulfil customer needs.


The charming streets of Ranwar village and Pali village have a refreshing lighting theme this year. Innovative decorations and ornamentation of cultural significance makes a striking visual. Walking tour or a bicycle tour to Bandra is advisable to beat traffic and make a silent appearance without disturbing the local community. (Please note there is an on-going engineering work on many streets in Khar-Bandra due to which roads are dug-up, and some streets are closed for vehicles. Be prepared to wait in traffic if you are visiting in big SUV’s).

The Bandra Wonderland at Carter Road has a spectacular glow with a larger-than-life Christmas Tree, Santa’s sleigh, Christmas stars, and the popular ‘I Love Mumbai’ symbol in full glimmer.
Christmas carols and live Music is played at the convent road in Bandra on specific dates. So, if you enjoy festive music than this is the spot to sing, shop and dine on street food. Bandra Gymkhana is also one of the popular gathering points for Christmas Bazaar and to eat and drink.

The extraordinary and one of the most creative Christmas cribs showcasing nativity is on display at the Damian Showroom. The annual window display is open to all and visible from the outside for pictures.
The Christmas lighting in Bandra extends upto Bandra reclamation with impressive themed illumination. The place is super crowded on weekends so plan your trip accordingly.
