In a major upgrade, renowned British folding bicycle brand Brompton from UK has introduced Gravel Bikes with larger wheels. It comes in two variants – electric bike with pedal assist and non-electric version.
Classified as G Line, the Gravel bikes with 20-inch wheels are much bigger than the standard 16-inch wheels. The brand has retained its USP of the folding mechanism in G Line range.
The unique folding design is credited to the founder Andrew Ritchie who came up with this idea in 1975. Ever since, Brompton has maintained its leadership as one of the best folding bikes in the world.
The G Line is optimized for performance beyond the boundaries of Urban environment and targeted to the riders seeking adventure and road less travelled.

The bikes are available in three sizes – small, medium and large based on your height.
It comes in three colors – Traildust white, Forest green, and Adventure orange.
The G Line gives a familiar experience like a full-size Gravel bike and is capable to deliver on all sorts of surfaces.
For the first time Brompton has introduced Disc brakes and the G Line comes with Shimano 8-speed hub gears.
The electric G Line has 250-watt hub motor and delivers a range of 40-60 kms with a portable battery.

The all-new geometry of G Line comes with handmade steel frames, thicker tyres and wider handlebars, all designed around the fold that has made Brompton famous.
The folding Gravel bike is slightly heavier than the standard Brompton and weights around 14.8 Kgs with a rack and a mudguard and the electric G Line weights about 19.5 Kgs.
In comparison, the lightest folding bike that Brompton offers is the Titanium T Line model weighing about 8 Kgs but it’s designed with a different proposition and use case. The traditional C Line weighs 11.5 Kgs and the P Line is about 10.5 Kgs.
Brompton has designed custom-made accessories exclusively for G Line range for cyclists to fit luggage racks, fenders, and a variety of bags that comes at an additional cost.
Starting price of Brompton 8-speed G Line is Rs.2,65,000/- while the electric variant costs Rs.3,86,000/- and both models will be available from October. The dates for launching these bikes in India market is not announced.

Which Gravel bikes can you buy at the price of a G Line?
It may not be right to compare a folding Gravel bike with a full-size Gravel bike, however there is no harm in doing it. There are several brands which offer Gravel bikes but I just made a quick comparison with a Trek, Scott and Giant.
