Hundreds of cyclists took over the streets of Frankfurt riding on the beats of the famous bike DJ Dom Whiting from the UK as a prelude to the Euro Bike Show main event. Onlookers cheer for the participants from their balconies and joined the celebratory ride.

The Euro Bike cycling parade in Frankfurt city is a gathering of active mobility enthusiasts, involves fun and music and a must attend ride if you are in the city to attend the main expo.
On a wet afternoon I was dressed up to walk my way towards the Frankfurt Festhalle square. But nature was in its own mood. As I stepped towards the exit of the hotel, it was raining with cloudy skies. I went back to the room and changed into shorts, slippers and a rain jacket.

I walked outside of the hotel braving the weather and after a km, it stopped raining. And I found myself arriving at the venue well before time. The participants were still making their way as the meeting time was 12:30 pm with a short program and the ride was expected to commence at 2:00 pm.
I used the opportunity to interact with a few participants and took a glimpse of their unique bicycles, tricycles, tandem bikes and cargo bikes.
The host invited few speakers on the stage and they spoke in German which I couldn’t understand. Finally, DJ Dom Whiting arrived on stage and spoke in English about sustainability, cycling as an active commute and so on.

The ride began at stipulated time and hundreds of riders took off with Dom Whiting in the lead position. The atmosphere was electric with loud music and cyclists dominating the streets. I was in a cycle rickshaw since I didn’t have a bicycle – thanks to the organizers for arranging a seat for me in the ‘Velo Taxi’ as it is commonly called in Europe.
I thoroughly enjoyed the mood, observing public reactions. People were standing at their balconies; some were recording the moments with their phones and there were families standing outside their houses to cheer the parade.

I had never imagined that I would be witnessing this in my lifetime – a bicycle parade in Europe with music. Totally crazy!
We passed through the skyscrapers of Frankfurt city, crossed the Maine river through a bridge and some historic places. This was a good chance for me to see the city along with so many cyclists.

After completing a distance of 15 kms, we returned back to the square. The theme of the Euro Bike 2024 city parade was ‘Everyone rides a bike’.
I must say it was so well organized and my decision to reach a few days early in Frankfurt before the main event and attend the parade was a good one.
Hopefully, I will be back at the Euro Bike cycling parade next year – not in a Velo Taxi but on a bicycle 🙂
