Why are foreigners choosing India as a cycling destination? We don’t have the requisite cycling infrastructure and safety is a critical issue. ‘Our weather and road conditions are not suited for cycling’ is what most local citizens say as the main reason for not cycling. Then how is it different for tourists from abroad? I have attempted to answer some questions in this blog.

My target for the day was 50 miles. The previous night was terrific. A storm had passed, and the beach house where I had stayed was rattling for almost half an hour. I tried to sail through the darkness as mosquitoes took over my room. Water supply had ceased, and even a shower in the morning was impossible. With a fully drained power bank, a phone with less than 70% battery- life, no sleep and poor breakfast, I had to ride from Kunkeshwar to Ratnagiri. Pedal For The Planet turned out to be a process to accustom to the uncertainty of life!

46-year-old Bangalore resident Meera Velankar, and 26-year-old Varanasi resident Utkarsh Verma have created a new record in tandem cycling. The Indian duo are the first in this mixed age category to summit Umling La on a tandem bicycle, which is the highest motorable pass in the world.

Tanya Alok Daga, a para-cyclist from Biaora city, Madhya Pradesh successfully completed a charity cycle ride from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. Riding with one leg, Tanya covered a distance of 3800 Kms in 43 days on a road bike.
