Filmmaker Liz Canning cycled everywhere until she had twins in 2008. Hauling babies via car was not only ‘unsustainable’, but it took the freedom and adventure out of life; and Liz felt trapped. She Googled “family bike” and uncovered a global movement of people replacing cars with cargo bikes. Liz set out to learn more and MOTHERLOAD was born.

Artistic cycling is a niche form of competitive indoor cycling in which athletes perform tricks using customized fixed-geared bicycles.

The sport is a combination of cycling, gymnastics, dance and acrobatics. It is often referred as ‘Freestyle Cycling’ or ‘Cycling Ballet’ due to refined, elegance and creativity displayed by performers. In the competition, professional athletes perform before a panel of judges in five-minute rounds that includes 30 figures. (Stunts are called ‘figures’ in UCI competition)Each figure delivered by an athlete is evaluated on various parameters such as level of difficulty, balance, grace, form, strength, style and flawlessness.

Jos Sluijsmans is the Director of International Cargo Bike Festival (ICBF), co-founder of Dutch Bicycle Center, and member of the Dutch Cycling Embassy and European Cycle Logistics Federation. After working as an interpreter and translator in Spanish for ten years and practicing law for eight years during the early stages of his career, Jos Sluijsmans ventured into cycling business and launched Fietsdiensten.nl in 2004. He started as a bike messenger and delivered organic and local food to restaurants by cargo bike. Jos also gave cycling lessons to people with physical and mental challenges.

#WORLD SENIOR CITIZENS DAY

Cycling Without Age (CWA) is a social movement originating in Copenhagen, Denmark and was launched in 2012 by Ole Kassow. The purpose of the organisation is to invite socially isolated seniors back into their local communities by engaging them in mutually beneficial and stimulating trishaw rides with volunteers (trishaws are also known as cycle rickshaws, bike taxi and tri-cycle taxi).

Ole wanted to help the elderly get back on their bicycles, but he had to find a solution to their limited mobility. The answer was a trishaw and he started offering free bike rides to the local nursing home residents.

Carol Cooke is a Paralympic Gold Medalist in Cycling from Australia. She has authored a book ‘Finding your Inner Gold’ in which she talks about rediscovering oneself and how to create a winning mindset. Besides being an author, Carol is dedicated to doing public service as a Motivational Speaker and inspires people to restore courage, dare to overcome ones fears and be an achiever.

Carol was a National level swimmer while growing-up, and a high performing girl in sports. Post her marriage, one day, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and was told by the physicians ‘life is never going to be normal for you’. MS, a condition in which most people give -up hope, Carol fought hard and continued with her sporting activities. She got success first in Rowing and than in Cycling. Despite her severe condition, her choice of being involved in physical activities resulted her in winning many competitions at National and International level.

Paul Richardson is a 46-year-old athlete from Scotland. Paul is married to Keira (a keen runner who is doing the London Marathon this year) with 2 kids (Finn 8 and Ava 10).

Paul lives in Lauder in the Scottish Borders which is an amazing part of the world. Paul loves to cycle and runs in different trails as well as likes going on holiday and socializing.

He has taken part in many cycling and running events including – Edinburgh Marathon, Mighty Deerstalker, Caledonian Etape, Ken Laidlaw Sportive, Tour of the Borders and Edinburgh to St. Andrews.

Samanta Bullock is a London based wheelchair model, a strong proponent of inclusive fashion and leads an active and healthy lifestyle. A Brazilian born, she represented her country “I’m wheelchair Tennis” at the  2007 Para Pan Am Games and won a Silver Medal in doubles. Apart from playing Tennis at the highest level, Samanta also plays other sports and has performed at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Paralympic Games held in London.

As a fashion model, Samanta Bullock has participated in renowned fashion shows like “London Fashion Week, Fashions Finest, International Dubai Fashion Week, Vogue Fashion Runway during NYFW” to name a few and worked with illustrious fashion designers and brands from across Portugal, Brazil, Spain, Turkey and Great Britain.
